In addition to her Broadway and touring credits, Mary-Mitchell has a very active concert career and performs frequently with Kristin Chenoweth, Gavin Creel, Jessica Vosk, and Raul Esparza. In her pop career, she has worked with Alicia Keys, Katy Perry, Carole King, Amy Grant, Kelly Clarkson, James Taylor, and Josh Groban amongst others.
She was the Music Director and orchestrator of HBO’s Homeschool Musical, and the Vocal Director for Season 1 of Peacock’s Girls5Eva, Executive Produced by Tina Fey and Jeff Richmond. Additionally, she served as the vocal coach for Better Nate Than Ever on Disney+, where she made a cameo appearance.
She has conducted symphonic orchestras all over the county including the Chicago Symphony, the Cincinnati Symphony, the Dallas Symphony, the Nashville Symphony, and will be leading the Colorado Symphony in their new Imagination Artist Series.
She won a Drama Desk for Best Orchestrations for the 2006 revival of Company starring Raul Esparza and was nominated for Best Orchestrations for her work on the Off-Broadway productions of Allegro and Hello Again.
Throughout her decades of experience in the industry, Mary-Mitchell has remained passionate about arts education and access to arts education for marginalized communities. She is the Founder/President of ArtsIgnite (formerly ASTEP) which recruits and trains high-level artists to teach young people health, education, and life skills through the arts. She regularly volunteers with ArtsIgnite to work with students throughout the US, Africa, and India. She is on the advisory board for Maestra, an organization empowering female and non-binary musicians, and is a Founding Member of MUSE - Musicians United for Social Equity.
Mary-Mitchell is from North Carolina and graduated from Furman University and North Carolina School of the Arts, where she additionally holds an Honorary Doctorate. After previously teaching on the faculties of Juilliard, NYU, and Boston College, she continues to teach master classes and private lessons. When not too busy making music and working to allow others to do so, she can be found hiking with her beloved dogs, Maya and Steve.
